CYcle Skeleton

Transportation and Circulation Center, St Lois MO

The Idea

Similar to the heart, cycling is a simple way of transportation which requires a smooth and direct path towards its destination. The heart circulates blood throughout the body similar to the way cycling paths pump traffic through different locations. The blood is transported through intricate networks of hollow tubes called blood vessels. CYcle skeleton has developed this point of view by using vessels to transport cyclists in a direct linear route towards their destination. These vessels create unity by bringing together St Louis' pre-existing routes. In addition, the hollow tubes prevent clotting of traffic due to their strategic mapping.

Having a site which is situated  on one of St Louis' more trafficked streets, proposes the challenge of creating a separation from pedestrians and heavy car-flow. CYcle Skeleton proposes a series of vessels which act as a barrier between the two. However, to prevent complete separation, new pedestrian and cycle paths have been created throughout.

Transporation Center

The transporation center includes overhead passageways for pedestrians and cyclists and underground passageways for cyclists changing rooms, restrooms, bike shop, and retail space. These spaces are located on the perimeter of the skeleton to allow for more direct paths through the vessels dedicated to circulation flow. The transportation and circulation center is dedicated to all users including cyclists, runners, and walkers.
